Well that was terrifying

Everyone has bad dreams.  Occasionally mine are of the standard nightmare fare... however, my worst ones are anything to do with academia.   The most common is either forgetting to study for an exam, missing an exam or not going to class and have nothing to study from.  I know these sound rather tame, but they will wake me up in a cold sweat.

Last night's was a new take on the above.  I dreamt that I realised that I forgot to finish my Bachelor of Commerce degree. In my dream, I took most of the courses, but somehow forgot to take the last six.

It felt very real. I woke up and actually had to think "I did finish it right?"  I remembered my Bachelor of Science degree because I have a very vivid memory I have of finishing my last exam. But for the life of me I couldn't remember graduating Commerce.

It completely freaked me out.  I was WIDE awake at 4:45 am.  In addition, there was this odd repetitive humming noise, which I think was the air conditioner that at 4:45 am was just deafening. It's probably always been there, but I just never noticed it.  In my highly freaked out state, I was aware of everything.

At some point, I drifted back to sleep.  I am guessing around 6 am or so.  Come 6:40 am when I usually get up,  I was a zombie.  A double espresso did nothing to remedy my situation.

Even though in my head I KNEW I had done all the courses and graduated, I still had to run down to the basement and find my certificate that was sitting in one of the boxes downstairs.  I know it's ridiculous, but it had to be done.

Standing there looking at the certificate I felt relief, but also like a colossal idiot.
