It is a 9 month program of conferences/seminars during which you learn about yourself, your community and the amazing leaders in it.
We got to see all parts of the city including the Social Enterprise Center, Neechi Commons, The University of Winnipeg, LITE Winnipeg, SPARK Winnipeg, Urban Circle, Makoonsag It was eye opening in that I had honestly had no idea this kind of thing was going on in our city.
In order to graduate from the program (It's University accredited) you had to put in major hours in at seminars and conferences and all participants had to collectively write a book. We were divided in to teams. Each team had to go out and interview an influential Leader in the community, write up that interview and work through all editing of the piece. Further, each participant had to complete a solo interview/write up as well.
It all sounds very easy. Let me assure you, it's an exercise in planning and coordination. Influential leaders in the community have very busy schedules, as do the participants in the program. Trying to coordinate all the hose schedules simultaneously was interesting. Then, having to work through the editing of your own and group pieces was a challenge as well. But the end result is a beautiful book showcasing some brilliant people in Winnipeg.
The book will be made available in the Millennium library. In addition, it will be soon be available for print on Blurb.ca
I am extremely proud that two of my good friends, Nick Paulet and Sean Crawford are featured in this years edition. Well done gentlemen.
