Sea Monkey Madness

Zach got a Sea Monkey Aquarium Kit in his stocking for Christmas.
It has been sitting on his desk since then.  Last week he decided it was time to give it a go.

I was pretty pumped to try this out to be honest.  I used to read Archie comics like they were going out of style (TEAM BETTY by the way...)

On the back of the comic books, there was always these ads for Sea Monkeys, goofy magic tricks kits or bubble gum.

I remember I ordered a whoopie cushion once. I was so excited to get it in the mail.

Anyways, circling back to the point of this post.  We now have Sea Monkeys.  We started the kit last Monday, the same day of the heat wave. The kit says it can take up to 7 days for the eggs to hatch, but I think since the house was so freaking warm last week, they hatched early.
I honestly don't know what I was expecting, but it definitely isn't what is in our Sea monkey tank at the momment.

Sea monkeys, as per the ads and cartoons are supposed to look something like the cartoon on the left there..

However, what I have noticed, is that the in fact look like tiny pieces of wet yarn swimming around in the tank.

A real sea monkey looks like the picture on the left.  So odd. Apparently after enough time, they start to reproduce on their own and more little monkeys will appear.

If I am being honest, I have to admit, it's a little bit anticlimatic, but that's alright. The boys are getting a kick out of it, that's the important thing.

We have quite the ecclectic array of animals now, we have a bird, goldfish, tropical fish including an enormous plecostomus called Jeeves. We have now added a troop of sea monkey's to the equation.

Whatever, normalcy has never been our style anyways.

team betty here too! I knew we were kindred. I used to scour neighborhood garage sales for stacks of archies and read them while eating celery sticks dipped in creamy cucumber dressing. funny what we remember. I also remember that I would've done almost ANYTHING to get me some of those sea monkeys.

When I was at Kit and Kaboodle at the Forks, they have this AMAZING book. It's an archie comic, but hardcover. Then on one half of the book is what would have happened if Arcie married Veronica. Flip the book upside down and it's what would have happened if he married Betty.

So cool.
